Employee Benefits

In this Chapter . . .

The Agency provides and pays for part or all of your Social Security, Worker’s Compensation Insurance, Unemployment Insurance, and New Jersey State Disability Insurance, as required by law.

Please note: In order to effectively manage our business, there may be times that the Agency will need to change or eliminate employee benefits. Partners in Home Care may make these business decisions and follow through on them without talking with you or getting your approval.

Medical Insurance

We offer three choices of medical insurance to our employees.

Eligibility

After you have been employed for 30 days, you are eligible to participate in one of the health insurance plans. You must, however, work 36 hours or more per week (counting your travel time) on a regular basis.

You may choose to sign up for this insurance upon meeting the eligibility requirements. However, should you decide to take advantage of this benefit at a later date, you must wait for the annual open enrollment period. The open enrollment period is the month of June of each year. The effective date of your insurance when you enroll in June, is July 1st.

Cost to the Employee

These programs give you the chance to get some basic hospital medical coverage for yourself and your family at a lower cost than you as an individual would pay for the same insurance.

The Agency pays 50% of your personal (employee) coverage. Family or dependent coverage is available to you. If you select one of these, you must pay the difference in monthly premiums between single and family/ dependent coverage. The current premiums costs for all these insurances are available in the Human Resources Department.

The cost of the monthly premiums will be a payroll deduction and be subtracted in two equal payments from the first two paychecks you receive each month. The premiums can be deducted from gross pay on a pre-tax basis (prior to paying Federal income tax).

Dental Insurance

A Dental Insurance plan with US Healthcare is also offered to you by the Agency after 6 months of employment in which you have worked a minimum of 36 hours per week. You must also participate with US Healthcare Medical Insurance Program to be eligible. Further information can be obtained through the Human Resources Department.

The Agency pays 50% of the monthly individual premium cost, with the rest of the cost being paid by you through payroll deduction.

Tax Sheltered Annuity Pension Plan

To provide you with some retirement security, a tax-sheltered annuity plan has been set up by the Agency for its employees

Eligibility

Your Voluntary Contribution

Immediately upon being hired, you may elect to put between 1% and 20% of your gross pay (pay before taxes or other deductions) into your personal tax-sheltered annuity account.

The Agency’s Contribution

After you have worked at least 1000 hours in each of two (2) consecutive years, you will be eligible for the agency contribution into your pension plan. At that time, the Agency will contribute 4% of your gross pay (pay before taxes or other deductions) into your personal account. The Agency will also make an additional contribution of $.50 for every dollar that you contribute into your account, up to an additional 2% of your gross pay. At that point, the allowable contribution that you can make from your pay will be up to 14%.

The Human Resources Department will notify you of your eligibility for the Agency’s contribution.

Credit Union

A Credit Union is a cooperative type financial institution that offers various savings plans and opportunities for acquiring loans, usually at low interest rates, to its members.

The Agency has arranged with ABCO, Public Employees Federal Credit Union, to make it possible for you to become a member of its credit union, if you wish to participate. It offers a variety of savings opportunities for you, as well as MAC and VISA cards, several types of loans, and other personal services.

Details about the credit union and how you can become a member are given to you when you become employed with the Agency and are available in the Human Resources Department.
