Preliminary Steps
Prior to beginning the project, we do the following:
Meet with your staff:
If the online manual is for a computer application, we meet to discuss
the complexities of the system, navigational techniques, etc. If the online
manual is for policies and procedures, company operations, product information,
or any of the dozens of subjects a company might be interested in displaying
via a web site, we meet to discuss the topics and text to be included.
Develop the linking structure:
After thoroughly analyzing the system, we present a detailed preliminary
map of your online manual. This map is like an outline of the online manual;
however, it's more than just an outline because it contains the linking
structure for your online manual. The linking structure refers to the jumps and pop-ups that
we will include within your online manual.
Develop the format:
We develop a customized format that is attractive, easy to use, and appropriate
for your application. Following your approval of the linking structure
and the format, we will proceed with the other phases of the project.
The next phase of the process is writing and editing.
